connecting

I come from a long line of storytellers. The names in my family tree include the Brothers Grimm, which perhaps explains both the lifelong obsession with dark material and the burning need to return stories to the people they belong to.

The Grimms collected tales that women had carried for generations and put their own names on them. I have spent my life working in the opposite direction: finding the stories that have been overlooked, misattributed, or kept from the stage, and building space for the people who should have been telling them all along.

My medium is opera. My stages have been concert halls, warehouses, parks, and city streets across Europe, the United States, and the Middle East. My work is about who gets to tell the story, who gets to stand on the stage, and the joy of building that together..
